HMS Janus in action. These photos were graciously provided by Jack Gradwell, whose father served in HMS Janus. Two of the photos show Janus in action against Vichy French destroyers off Syria in 1941, and making smoke during that action (the latter photo probably taken from HMS Isis), while the third view shows her fueling from HMS Barham. Jack's father served an anti-aircraft mount under the bridge and was wounded by shell fragments from the serious hits Janus took from the larger guns of her opponents. He was also one of the lucky survivors when a German guided bomb sank Janus off Anzio.

We are always interested in period photos, so if you have any you would care to share, please contact us.

WEM SERVICE/DELIVERY

Have always had good service from WEM and as such they tend to be my first port of call when I am looking for parts. Even though I live way down under I still get stuff shipped in good time and our postal service here can be a little messy from time to time."--Dave Stone

"My dealings with WEM have always been positive. Bought my first EVER resin kit recently - their HMS Sheffield 1941. Arrived in 1 week (UK to Jamaica).
The detail in both the resin parts and PE is superb. For a relative novice to PE like me......this is going to be a real challenge, but I'll get it done!"--Paul C

"Some forum members may have noticed some of my posts about the lousy postal service we have here in the eastern corner of Europe. Well twice has a package been returned from the post office to WEM as undelivered and yet they sent it again. Many thanks to all of the staff at WEM. They are indeed the best.--Nick (in Greece)

"Just had to share this piece of 1st-class customer service from the White Ensign crew. On Saturday picked up the 1/350th HMS Roberts from the local post office. I had received an email from Lizzie at WEM even before the post office had tried to deliver the package, stating the incorrect ship's boats might have included, (top marks for that in the 1st place) listing what should be there. Sunday evening replied saying that I had 2 cutters & 1 whaler instead of the other way round, Monday morning got a reply saying missing whaler would be dispatched shortly. Got home from work yesterday evening and it had arrived!! Very big thanks to all at WEM, you guys are the Best."--Simon Heathwood

"You guys and gals have found a new satisfied customer from "across the pond". Being new to "ships" and having only been lurking on the better known ship model Forums I came to the conclusion early on that WEM was a reputable company. It's still a big leap to order a large rather expensive model from overseas, with the shipping issues, damage, exchange rates....etc, etc. Horror story after horror story. Well, I could not have had a better experience. Through yours and my emails I felt as though I knew you as friends. You spoke the truth, and came through with flying colors. You provided service from across the big pond on a level that surpassed many companies here. I made a few orders prior to WEM's and your arrived, they are still en-route. Bravo WEM. I just want to say.......I'm impressed, and to thank you all."--Steve Hornberger, USA

"...thank you for your patience, help, and the lists you mailed me. The kit I ordered arrived a few days ago and...I look forward to future dealings with White Ensign, a firm that obviously cares about its customers."

James H. Orr, USA

"I work in customers relations here in Sweden at Nordea Bank, and I refer to you how to provide good custumer relations and your incredible speed of delivery. We try to live up to your standards, but it's hard!"--Bosse Persson, Sweden

" Just 10 days after ordering I am faced with a Breathtaking Sovremenny PE Set  1/200, but also excellent care in detail (catalog, credit card receipt etc). Keep it up, keep etching, we’ll keep buying !!

Nikos Panagiotidis, Greece.

"Order sent in 1st August, arrived NZ today 14th.  Very impressed with your website, products, packaging and overall efficiency and professionalism."

David Frowen, New Zealand.

"Dave, I have a complaint. Why did it take only one week for you to ship my order over 3000 miles, and it takes up to a month for me to get my goodies from somewhere in New Jersey? Seriously, I am very happy with the ship time on my order. My hat's off to you and your company for such a quick turn. I will be spreading the good word around to my fellow modelers, and hope to do business sometime in the near future."--Derek Juszczyszyn, USA

COLOURCOATS PAINTS

"WEM Colourcoats are spot on. You may want to weather them down or compensate for scale effects, but they are the Rolls-Royce of paints for accuracy."

Gary J. in North Carolina

"Hi Caroline, Thanks for that info. Have just painted a 1200th Russian DDG in your colours and I have to congratulate you they are excellent and so easy to use. Far superior in my opinion to Humbrol, Revell etc."

John W Ellis

"Hi, I'm working on a Revell corvette, and had occasion to use you new WEM paints on part of the engine casing and decking. In a word: "Excellent!" A 1:1 mix with Modelmaster thinners applied at 20psi gave me superb results: smooth finish, dead matte, and total coverage. With a bit of paint left in the cup, I practiced on some scrap plasticard and easily obtained virtually a hair width line with no trouble. This is excellent paint."

Gary Barling

"The KM paints arrived safely and I finished several models already!  The quality is excellent!  The best paints on the market!!!"--Detlef Hartwig

"I know I am preaching to the choir, but I am finally getting around to using your paints that I bought. These paints are simply magnificent! I was going to airbrush them on, but they are just as advertised satin smooth!  Great quality, and great all around. I am glad that I got them."--Marvin Maxson

WEM PRODUCTS

"I just received an order of new twin 40mm mounts from WEM. I want you all to know that if you're building a 1/144 Fletcher and need this mount you can do no better than this latest WEM offering. What an absolutely beautiful assembly. Well done WEM."--Bruce Ross

"Hi John, I thought that I would let you know that my order arrived yesterday in excellent condition. I looked the two articles over and I am very impressed with your company's work. This is the best photo-etched material that I have ever seen. Thanks again for your quick service."--Steve Lipke

"Thanks - you guys are the best. By the way, I can't say enough how impressed I am with your products. Your service is blindingly fast and the quality is remarkable. I had to put Hood aside and start on Rodney at 1:00 in the morning. Great set! Loads of 20mm's for my other projects. I'm starting to get to my usual state where I bite off more than I can chew (and I know it's wrong) - but my next project will be a KGV update set. Hood is almost done. I'm putting fairleads and doors on. Then I'll finish up the ladders and then...railing. Cheers."--Don Murphy

1/700 HMS CHESTER

"Thought you might like some feedback on the WEM HMS Chester kit.....I have to say, this is an excellent kit, well thought out and designed with some superb moulding and PE parts. I have built her straight out of the box, the only extra being the rigging.  In particular, the deck is beautifully moulded, as are the splinter blankets.  It almost seems a pity to cover all that detail with paint!  HMS Chester is the first WEM kit I have built and is the best resin kit I have built."--Rob Kernaghan

1/350 USS REUBEN JAMES 1941

" Just wanted to give a belated thanks for the great job you folks did with the Reuben James kit! I must say it was truly one the BEST kits I've ever seen - fit, detail, instructions - everything is first-rate. A friend's father served on the 2nd Rueben James (DE-153) and was quite impressed as well. I've attached some photos of the finished kit - painted with Colourcoats paints as well, the only change I made was to use some small scale chain for the anchors instead of the etched chain."--  A.J. Owens

"I received the Reuben James today, and it is a beauty. I have heard the phrase "crisp casting" before, but this is beyond that. To whomever created this, please tell them for me that this is a piece of art. I'm really looking forward to building it."--Frank Lemond

"I just opened the package containing the Reuben James. I had to ask myself a couple of questions.

1. Why did I wait so long to discover the world of WEM? 2. How did they make such a thing of beauty.

The castings are amazing!, the instructions are a delight. I can only hope that my efforts are worthy of your efforts. Now comes the hard part--which WEM is my next project."--Ron Schmitt, Puyallup WA USA

"Just a note to say I received my Reuben James kit today. Despite the best efforts of our respective postal services, the kit arrived intact. The kit is absolutely beautiful!! I have already begun fitting it together. Also, thanks for adding a tin of paint to meet the new minimum order requirement. I can always find a use for it. Thanks again for your wonderful models and great service."--Doug Fritz

1/350 USS KNOX 1982

First message: "I have just ordered a Knox class kit from White Ensign. It was only this evening that I became aware that a kit of this class was available anywhere. Surprisingly, I have found at least two. White Ensign's product is by far the superior one. In the late 1980's I served as a junior officer aboard a Knox, USS Ainsworth (FF1090). Looking at the pictures of the kit brought back many memories. Everyone at White Ensign is to be complimented for their work with this very fine model"--Jonathan Murphy

Second message: "Just a short e-mail to tell you that your 1/350 Knox class kit arrived at my door yesterday afternoon. If this is an example of your product, then, as my budget allows, I will be placing orders with WEM in the future. The quality and accuracy of the model is superb. I felt as if I was walking the decks of Ainsworth again as I looked over the hull and superstructure. The photo-etched parts were particularly impressive. The instructions are thorough, easily read, and the illustrations excellent. I am looking forward to customizing this kit using my memories and photos"--Jon Murphy

"I used to order all my ship models from ********, which is just eight miles from where I live.  It would take eight to ten days for their products to arrive.  I have now switched to WEM for all my ship model needs, and you are now my exclusive supplier.  Your service is the best, and John's willingness to answer question about colors was a big seller.  The last time I asked a question to ********  about a product I was looking for I was told by the sales person they did not have time to answer it. You now have a customer for life."--Michael Golden
